Chinese Casting...fair to good drills that get the job done. Never going to be as good as startrite, meddings or the like.I recently purchased a Drummond lathe and as part of the deal it came with a Warco 28 drill, any one know anything about them?
How are they quality wise compared to Startrite/ Fobco?
Its big and heavy!
Ironically you will sell the Ding dong a lot easier than the quality old stuff to the DIY as they think because its newer its going to be more reliableThanks
My gut feeling is to keep the Startrite, flog the Fobco its lovely but I cant get on with it unguarded the Warco I thought it was a foreign casting but it looks well made, its a beast of a thing and as winchboy has a floor mounted Meddings and I have a bench mounted Startrite I don't really need it.
Just don't want to regret it in a few weeks
yea i have 3 and thats what i do if ime honestTo be honest I wish I had room to keep them all, I would have them set up for different things

Will take some in the week still haven't decided what to keep its between the Startrite and the Warco 28, winchboy had a large Meddings for bigger stuff, Just advertised my Fobco on Farce bookI have a Nearok lathe. That's been pretty good too!
Any chance of a pic of your mill/drill? And the model number too please. I'd like a smallish bench top mill myself
I think mine was the biggest they do in the mill/drill range, the 500 iirc...notice the rise and fall motor/drive i have made for it,works off a 12V batt and i think i cobbled it from a wheelchair drive motorI have a Nearok lathe. That's been pretty good too!

Same size as mine. Reasonably rigid.I think mine was the biggest they do in the mill/drill range, the 500 iirc...notice the rise and fall motor/drive i have made for it,works off a 12V batt and i think i cobbled it from a wheelchair drive motorI love it as its on R8 tooling so its readily available for low money..
The head is on a rack and pinion and runs up the coloum.Looks good! I'd deffo like something like that
How does the rise n fall bit work? Which bit rises and falls? Video?
The head is on a rack and pinion and runs up the coloum.
Quill can be turned via big levers or locked to a screw to lower accurately.
yea..if you bring them right down to the table then it really stiffens up and with that comes more accuracySame size as mine. Reasonably rigid.
I wondered about that, but the rack is not attached to the head in that last pic. Or has the head been manually raised above the rack for a bigger job?
On my bench drill the head is fixed and the table raises and lowers with a rack & pinion. Looks like the table is fixed on the mill.
Pics of mine scattered round this thread.
Post 49 shows rack.

Mine will go all the way up so the pillar is hidden.
Or not.Ah ha - all makes sense now! Cheers Ears!
Or not.
Looking at those images above apears the pinion is on the base rhs and the whole coloum moves up and down in the base.
Clamping levers lower lhs.
Very odd.
Must need a cutout below for clearance.
Hmm now I've looked closer at the pics of your machine, I am confused again.
Stilll can't see how it works unless as you say, the head is fixed and the column rises out of, and falls into, a recess in the bench/stand. If that was the case though, wouldn't the top of the rack be attached to the column with a collar of some sort?
Hello WindyI have a Nearok lathe. That's been pretty good too!
