Know the feeling @davidjohnperry the amount of money that goes through these big companies and they can't sort you out with the tight basic tools. British industry is crazy!
The place im looking to work make bridge girders, beams ,stuff like thatI do the welding and fabrication stuff and help out on the jig sometimes not very adverse in setting out but as our company don't supply us with impact guns or the right size spanners I tend to supply if I know in advance and bolt up with a more experienced fitter
when i first moved here i started for a structural/architectural outfit, we had a lad that had served his time as welder for a bit outfit and had been laid off in the redundancies on the day he came out of his time. good fabricator, not a bad mig welder, but he couldnt change a spool or a liner at all, i had to teach him. apparently they had service techs to do itAgree with @Brad93 also although basic learn how to change wire you would be surprised how many people don't know how to swap out 15 kg reels I really wish I was kidding
