Hey all,
I'm starting this thread in hope that somebody on here has been in my situation before and can offer me some much needed advice.
I plan to emigrate to Perth with my girlfriend, who is Australian, but would like to gain some qualifications/experience prior to making the move.
I am currently 25-years-old and have worked in a steel profile and fabrication workshop for nigh on 7-years now, which has allowed me to do pick up some basic MIG welding skills (I mainly work on the profiling side of things). I now intend to go to college to do my City & Guilds Level 1 and 2 in order to gain both experience and qualifications.
If anyone has ever been in my situation then I'd love to hear from you. I just need guidanice really, such as what I would be best off learning prior to emigrating etc.
Cheers,
Gary.
Hi Gary! my partner and I are in a similar situation at the moment, seen as your post is about 1yr old.
maybe you have gathered some new imp info you could share with me?
Basically my partner learnt welding on the Job too, however for employment purposes (in Australia) he needs to have a qualification in welding.
Would you know what relevant courses are available out there? Even in UK.. as we are originally from Malta, and are looking into going to UK for him to Study.
Nobody here in Australia seems to be able to tell me what he needs to do.. its frustrating. But then again we know its not an easy process.
Can anyone suggest any courses he can do?
Studying in Australia isn't a very good option for us.. as neither me or him are Aussies.. We can't afford to be on a student Visa and pay rent and everything form one wage only..We all know how expensive cost of living is here!
Which is why we are considering UK to study - its closer to home (3hrs flight) and more affordable.
I have found out that he needs to get a 'skills assessment' done in order for his Visa to pass and be approved. Which is why we want to spend Time and money in the right thing.
Anyone's suggestions I greatly appreciate! Thanks for your time!
