Want to buy a GOOD electronic fly zapper.

My mum used to have one -

In the evening, fly's would fly in... Somtimes one would get jammed and practically catch fire. There was no question as to if they died or not.

So, last year we purchased one off Amazon, that had more "gold stars" than the other offerings...

And if was rubbish.

Flys would fly in, get stunned, fall to the bottom, and then you would hear this buzzing as they regained consciousness (like when they're caught in webs) which would go on a while, till they managed to get back to the lights, where they would get zapped again and the cycle would repeat. Of they would go for a couple of laps of the kitchen again.

It was rubbish. And then one of the bulbs went in the <14 day period, so it went back.


I want to buy another. As I know (from my mum's one) that they work. Or certainly used to.

Can anyone recommend one? I want the type of thing that's pressed steel for industrial use, not moulded plastic and "they paid good money for someone to design that badge..."

Aspectek, about 30 quid of amazon, had then for over a year, can't fault them, when they get zapped, the zap is amazing you can hear the kitchen one from upstairs !!
The only thing that's rubbish is the daft wee catch tray at the bottom, far too small most of them drop out onto the floor.. I just took a bit of cable trunking lid and made a far wider one, catches the majority now,

I have a non electric one!! Its called a fly paper, Recently bought from Lidl etc, the stickiness is unbelievable, very effective and catching very well.

'Commercial fly killer' in Google seems to be a good term to use. £38 in Toolfix and Screwstation if required.

I think the original is 'insect-o-cutor'.

Usually used big time in dairy and cow health. Mole Avon or similar may do a good one as all farms I go to all you hear is

By far the most effective, you can give them a coat of gold paint at Christmas and use them as decorations

I have bifold back doors and find that flies always seem to come in. I bought one of these which work well:- https://www.toolstation.com/insect-o-cutor-aluminium-pluszap-fly-killer/p35686 .
However it only works if the flies go to it, the same with fly paper. I did have a good electric fly swatter which came from the co op but the handle broke after a couple of years, the replacement I bought from ebay had barely any zap even when I used a 9v battery insteaad of 3v. Best way I found was to stop the flies coming in in the first place and used fly nets over the doorway.

I think it was purchased from the bay of fleas. We've had it for about 5 years now, it does the business and it is cleaned out now and again.

Wouldn't be without, well worth the outlay for an industrial version.

there good but need the tubes changing every few years as they loose the light .there best placed in the room where its the darkest otherwise they don't attract as well

Before I retired the canteen at the last place I worked had a brilliant zapper. If you could get a daddy long legs crane fly to come into the canteen you could hear and smell the burning. Wasps used to practically explode.

Insectocutor were brilliant when we had the small mammal farm we had six of their stainless steel version each on a pulley & cord suspended some 8 feet from the floor in the middle of the room . Due to being accessible from both sides on they were very effective we had to empty the pull out drawers each morning , to leave them for two days would see the dead bodies in the tray so thick that they would touch the electrodes and stink the breeding buildings out as they got incinerated . It was like watching a massive lightening storm if you went in the sheds at night without putting the lights on .

I seem to recall that they had a version that can be screwed to the wall so it pokes out into the room giving you both sides to use . Being made in stainless steel ours were expensive at about £80 in 1996 the cheap white ones were about £ 20
