wall fixings

Hi guys
I am supplying a large wall mounted/floor suported CD rack to a guy who has walls like these (if image uploads). Rawl plugs are out.


I usually use those gurt big screw in aluminium screw thingys that go into plaster board and have a threaded hole in the middle for an ordinary screw. Any other options?

Whats the insulation? if its soft, hollow wall anchors might be wort a go...but better still, frame fixer through the board and into the brick...You can get them upto about 200mm long i think, 150 for deffinate.

Frame fixings are the way to go for sure.........what thickness have you in total? You don't need to go to 200mm I wouldn't think.

Frame fixings, but if you don't know the quality of brick you are fixing to, then they can be a poor choice, buy some threaded bar, cut to length and epoxy them in

Google for "hammer fixings", like a long screw in a wall plug. You drill the recommended size hole and knock it in with the hammer till the plug is fully home then tighten the screw down. If it's floor mounted and the support is only steadying it does it need a lot or would a shorter fixing into the top layer hold it ?

Whats the insulation?

Hard rubber tiles, at a guess. Acoustic insulation. Is there nothing on the manufacturer's site about what fixings to use? I assume that's where you got the drawing, which I recognise but can't remember the name.

screws

get a 6inch no 6 masonary drill . drill through into the brickwork well in. then insert a no 6 red rawlplug into the hole. get a 4inch 10 woodscrew use it to tap the rawlplug through into the brickwork. remove screw. then fasten the bracket with the screw into brickwork. they will be verry tight and wont come loose

I have used M 5 & above that sized stainless studding that was cut to a slicing end and chemical anchors in small bladders in such walls with a bit of copper or steel as a spacer tube over studding and calculated its length for the mean insulation thickness minus 2 mm . Once you decide the stud length you can either then slip a penny washer over the stud or a small one and bolt up using nice domed nuts.

There is no stress in the brick work with chemical anchors , I suspect that with that type of insulated wall it will be very old crumbly brick work that is liable to break up if you so much as look at it.

Having fixings at all four corners or more is much better than just two top hangers.
