VW toureg abs/esp problem

Ok so abs/esp light has been on for a while , went to local Vw independent garage today for diagnostic test .
Basically they are saying its ESP sensor unit (G149) no signal /communication and it needs two parts one s an upgrade I believe
Combi £587+ vat And multiple sensor £628 +vat
The indie dang garage doesn't have the computer to set it up , so it's main dealer , so we are looking about 2k
Have any of the collective any experience with theses sort of problems . Perhaps there is a specialist repairer or something some where in the country?

Btw it's a 2005 2.5 diesel manual about 140,000 miles
I'm thinking spares or repair on e bay at the mo ,

I used to have a small problem with my Land Cruiser ABS light coming on, Found it to be the switch on the gearbox sticking, It only happened when i had been in low range (which automatically switched off the ABS) When changing back to high range the switch remained stuck. Removed it and freed off and it worked ok after that, A free fix for a change,

I had my Audi A4 ABS module repaired by BBA Reman http://www.bba-reman.com/uk/index.aspx might be worth while calling them.

BBA reman have a good reputation, But when i sent my Touareg instrument cluster when the digital screen had a small fault they couldn't fix it, Had to buy a replacement from VW,

I think that at those prices it would be best to verify the fault first. By which I mean, continuity checks on the interconnecting wires, checking of power and ground at the sensor unit.

I did one on a golf a while ago, this was a combined unit, we got it second hand from eBay and it was plug and play. Older 03 model though.

Recently coded a second hand steering wheel module on an A4 with no dramas using vag com.
Check the Rosstech website, but in fairness to your indy, they are probably on the mark regarding what needs doing.
