I got my lazy **** down the barn tonight... and didn't even touch the car!
Instead I was playing Pimp My Welder, or rather my dad's welder - an old SIP 150. Got a new torch kit from Weldequip and fitted it all - liner, neck, neck liner, tip and shroud. I then made and fitted a metal connecting piece to improve the wheel alignment. Finally, I ditched about 10m of wire from the big reel so that I could get some clean stuff that will work smoothly (it had been sitting a while).
This welder has a whopping 3 switches and a wire feed as opposed to my old gasless SIP with simply a "high" or "low" switch. So I spent the rest of the evening trying out the different settings and practicing some welds.
I also got an auto darkening helmet from Weldequip to replace my splattered, shattered and broken old £10 jobbie that won't even stay on my head anymore. WOW! I love it! That's a move I should have made years ago. I can't get over how good it is for the money.
Although no progress was made on the car, I feel I've still being productive in the long run.
Small update. Near side A pillar section and heater channel are cut and offered up. I've sent my door hinges off to be re-bushed so that I can use the doors as a big tool to align everything. I'm literally building the car around a pair of doors!
