I've bought one of the very common Golf rear brake calipers, the ones with the built in handbrake, to try and use on my trike propshaft handbrake bolide. It arrived today, and I've pulled it to bits, seems quite simple: threaded rod is pulled by a lever, rotates, and screws the piston out to apply the handbrake.
As well as the piston moving by hydraulics.
What I can't work out is how it self adjusts.
Obviously the pads will wear, and I assume the piston rotates and gradually moves out along the threaded pin, but what makes piston rotate to take up wear?
I could go in a turn it a bit whenever it wears, but obviously that is supposed to happen automatically.
