£15 or so (providing you have a laptop to install it on any old thing with a usb port will do)
That's for a 'generic' ebay cable that runs with its 'own' software.
A genuine vcds/vagcom cable is about £250.

You might even be able to do without the cable,
Have a look for a model number on it. Some of them have a spare terminal that +12v will fire them up. That would let you work out if it's a heater problem or a car problem

What year is the Touran? Anything released after about 2004 requires a HEX+CAN interface, and won't work with the cheap eBay KKL leads and VCDS lite. If it's a first generation Touran (1T chassis code) you might be OK with a cheap lead.

I think once they have had 3 faults they lock out so it might just need a reset.
If you can afford a macbook then you could probably just buy a new car
I have no idea if it works on mac.

The amount of Tech issues I had with windows stuff it was cheaper to change to MacI think once they have had 3 faults they lock out so it might just need a reset.
If you can afford a macbook then you could probably just buy a new car

Yer no problem to run on a MacBook after you bootcamp the mac to windows or run a virtual machine with windows on the mac.
(Not going to happen is it! )
You can make up a cable and run free to download Webasto diag software on some of the Webastos but you often need to add some wiring to connectors. It will allow to change things like burn temp etc.
If you are someone who is regularly running around low on fuel that can be enough to lock them out. They are normally set to fire when the outside temp is below a certain level and the coolant is below a certain temp but if fuel is low they won't. When some of them have the same fault repeated a few times they can lock out.
The D3/4 diesels run a Webasto unit and they can be stripped and cleaned, for many them the issue is they never get a good enough run.
We have an Altox controller on our D3 that lets you fire it up remotely, track it and even clear faults. During the winter ours is scheduled to run for 30mins before need the car. Unless it's really cold the coolant is at full operating temp before you start.

My 2015 MacBook Pro make a great win 10 machine, at the time it was bought we did a lot of work with two advertising agencies so I needed to test things on a Mac but most of the software I need to set things up is only published for windows.
There is no way I was going to take both PC and Mac and my tool box on the tube, it worked well.

It's because low fuel counts as a failed start just the same as any other fault would which is why they lock out. I always tell my wife to make sure there is at least 1/4 tank in the D3 in the autumn winter.
Parking modern cars up with very little fuel is just asking for trouble if they are in regular use. Once you've had it lock out once due to repeated low fuel starts there isn't really a good excuse for letting it happen again.
