Volvo locking wheel nuts

I had a Volvo in for brakes today
After 30 minutes it was decided that the locknut key was missing
The Volvo nuts are well inside the wheel & very hard
A bit of 16 mill box section welded on from the inside
A old socket welded to that
Remove whilst hot
The box section protects the alloy wheel

A right pain arnt they ? especially when the car is full of stuff. even the boot can be a15min search, I used to have notices up saying that if the locker was not presented to us when the car was dropped off, we would charge for the hunt.

Good idea,------- BUT just a thought if 1.5mm wall box would a 1/2" extension have not fitted in the end of the box enough, to save more welding? using the old copper hammer shock treatment through the knuckle bar

I buy sockets from the car boot sales just for this

What looking for lockers keys ------------ARGH!!! I find hitting the owners over the head with a wheel brace, quite therapeutic, when you ring them, after stripping the car of a ton of S**TE and they say, OH do you need it?? it's is on the sideboard at home.

We had one car in and it was FULL the front and backs where level to above the seats with sandwich wrappers kfc, mc/ d's wrappers fag packets pill bottles note pads newpaspers you name it, We filled a bin bag just out of the front floor well, just to get to open the glove box !! and the boot was full too, and this was Lookin for the locker key, and the thing was this guy was a GP !!

there a waste of time in general like bein honest half the time if they want the wheels theyl get them most locknuts are easy removed with a socket tapped over them(most are im not saying all ) most of the lads i know if they buy a car with them there took off and binned straight away

Yep i take great delight if there is any issue with the lockers and the little plastic box is in there with the original nut/bolts in, putting it back to original, YES it make me feel GOOD.

I once managed to lose a Mcgard style locking nut, so made a blank one, hit that against the nut with a hammer so it left a feint impression of the key shape on the blank and then cut the key shape out with a dremel. I was suprised when it worked, but I think it helps that I dont overtighten the wheelnuts. then about 3 months later the original key turned up where it should have been all along (under the drivers seat)

Mate turns up asking if I can remove a locking wheel nut as he's lost the key so I managed to remove it with an old socket hammered over. He's had a go and damaged the allot with a chisel. "What about the other three?" I ask. "They will be ok as it's only this tyre that's bald" he says......

I have the same problem this very minute. .got the misses an e39 530 diesel bmw that needed work..including the brakes..they have a 15 internal spline..and can't find the *** tool ..so had to order one from a chap on eBay. ..still waiting for it to turn up . hopefully soon as I am getting serious ear ache. .

BMW Dealers often have them in stock to fit your car - but you'll need proof of ID to get qanywhere with them.

I did think about going to main dealer...but managed to find on on eBay. .looking back would of been easier to go main dealer...

E bay is the only option with older VAG locking wheel nuts, when I tried to get a replacement for the splined key they told me that it was not available but they could sell me a set of MAC Guards at twice the price Halfords had them.

That's what I thought. .but apparently bmw changed the number of splines on some of them..hopefully it to will turn up today.....

The box section is a good idea.. I seared the paint on mine when I removed them, but I wasn't bothered as they were my own alloys

Did you use a stick welder or mig welder on the inside of the box section? Just curious to know if there's enough of space to weld with a mig welder in there?

I think for every car I now scrap I'll keep the locker socket and sell um on hear for u lads good business plan me thinks
