hi
i fancy some electric gates at the end of the drive but there is a "but" its miles away from the power well 3/4 of a mile away l reckon if l run an armoured cable down to the bottom of the drive l guess i am going to get a significant voltage drop over that distance and is it able to be calculated or is the voltage drop proportional to load ?
l doubt l could use a 240v motor at that distance but could l use say a 12v dc motor ( car starter motor ? ) and then if l knew the voltage drop ie 50% then use a 110v battery charger to come on via a time clock that would charge up a bank of 3 or 4 car batteries that would supply the power to work the starter motor winch remote controls are cheaply available and would enable me to work the motor in either direction from the seat of the car
does that make sense ? at all or even a little bit
or changing track completely has solar power moved on far enough to keep the car batteries full ?
