Bolox to em im gonna ring A/P tomoz and see what they can do then ring BOC and tell them if they want the business they had better be quick.
In this day and age times are tough and its a buyers market.

I'm with SBK, this thread was started 10months back talk about dragging their feet, I have a bottle at the moment and I'm thinking on taking it back as the years nearly up on the rental, don't want to pay full price rental for another year if we can get some sort of deal from them, I already have a bottle of argoshield on the vw offer why cant they do something on the argon.

Agreed, but the problem you have is, it isn't an individual ringing up wanting to buy 50 cylinders to be delivered to one location, it is going to be 50 individuals ringing up over an extended period of time wanting to buy 1 bottle each, and those individuals are going to be scattered all over the country

boc and air products virtualy have all the big buisness sown up so why should they bother going out of there way to reduce prices for the small customers obviously all the rent free suppliers arent making a dent in there profits otherwise they would look in to it if they were loosing money

It's more a case of what types of industry a particular supplier is geared up to supply, as you say BOC, APL and AL are suited to mainly supply the larger end users whereas there are plenty of excellent smaller suppliers who do a great job of suppying the smaller user, it's horses for courses.

You wouldn't go to a refinery and expect to be able to buy a litre of petrol

It depends what your usage is, rent free great if you're an occasional mig user, not great if you're regular on TIG, less so if you're back purging.

According to a BOC agent I spoke to recently they have been having trouble getting Pure Argon , not sure why as it is only a different filling process to the Argoshield, but they had some of our 20 litre pure Argon cylinders to keep their customers happy .
We have a couple of agents in Scotland at the moment with about 16 more about to be announced.

Think it was more likely to be a shortage of smaller cylinders rather than a shortage of argon, after all, the AS plants are making it all the time and they can't be turned off.

Reply I received from Justin at BOC on Friday 22nd March when I asked about progress on a Volkzone type deal on argon:

There are no current offers yet on pure Argon,

we are aware there is a lot of interest in a hobbyist deal in Argon, and we are working on something.

That's an understatement, they quite clearly don't feel the need to offer a better deal than the standard rate below.

We have 3 different sizes of Pureshield Argon ( prices excl VAT)

Size W volume 11m3, refill 80.15, monthly rental 8.65 and an environment and energy surcharge of 2.31p per cylinder. Size 146cmx23cm, weight 85kg.

Size Y volume 4.7m3, refill 59.74, monthly rental 7.90 and an environment and energy surcharge of 1.92p per cylinder. Size 93x20, weight 40kg.

Size X volume 2.4m3, refill 45.17, monthly rental 5.90 and an environment and energy surcharge of 1.92p per cylinder. Size 94x14, weight 19kg.

Fixed charge for delivery is 48.85 or if you decide to collect from one of our local stores you pay a handling charge of 13.70.
