like the rest of us we all still eat meat but put it out of your mind and if you saw them being slaughtered it would make you feel sick and sad

School took us on a trip to the abattoir when I was at Junior school. Not fun to see how they slaughter cows & pigs, but I still like bacon & beef.

Simple fact is, meat doesn't appear on a plate by magic.

One of my grand parents kept the ledger in Swansea slaughter house , was taken there as a child to show me where my meat came from.

Can remember GF saying this is what happens! remember you do not want them to suffer, a quick painless death is what we aim fore, I used to shoot and have never shot anything I would not eat, including rooks

I come from a real poor agricultural background - my Father and Grandfathers brought home anything that swam/flew or ran for the pot.

I will and have put animals down when I have had to - but I don't shoot for sport. I not really keen on fishing to be honest - all this catch and release don't really suit me. Catch then priest and to the table more inline with my thinking.

Nothing more miserable than finding a nice plump hedgehog in the Fentrap meant for rats!

How it managed to get in there through such a small hole I have no idea.

From now on all forms of pest control are banned from our garden, let nature take it's course, at least it won't be on my fault!

We have hedgehogs in the garden - they drink from dog water bowls. Plus late at night - I leave out any wet cat food the "fussy cats) don't eat up in the day. Costs me nothing - they just clear up what is left/waste for bin.

I was taken round an abbatoir to see the whole process once ( I was actually there to look at a welding job on the equipment ) it was sheep, when I was there at least, I was quite amazed how quickly they despatched and processed the carcass on a kind of rolling, or rather hanging, production line
The things I remember particularly were a big plastic bin full of heads and a bloke with a big set of hydraulic 'secateurs' that neatly snipped through the rib cages.
Very interesting to see the reality of where your lamb chops actually come from.

We got taken through the slaughter house at Kelso when we were at school. It was pigs in that day. I’d rather be a cow.

The pigs get a preferable death to the cows, IMHO.
