the tail is used to lay eggs in prey insects (typically a wasp) which then hatches and eats its way out.

Usually it's one of the Botflys. Careful when you search, lots of NSFW stuffI seem to recall there is/are insect types that can lay eggs under the skin of a human.

My daughter had a normal everyday wasp sting her on the underside of her toe a week ago, while she was in bed asleep. Next day her foot went red and swelled up a bit, a he’d a lot too, and now she has a small blister there with what looks like four or five ‘cells’ inside. I’ve kidded her it is a baby wasp eggs nest.
She is terrified of them, there’s no chance I am right, is there?

How did you find out it was a wasp. Was it diagnosed by looking at the puncture wound?

well if we exercised enough they would be hardly anywhere for them to sting and lay eggs
