Vintage Horn ID

Does anyone recognise this horn? It is from a Fordson Dexta tractor. Everything electrical on the tractor is Lucas made, so i would be suprised if this was anything but Lucas. No ID name or numbers though and I can't find one on the web.

It doesn't work so i'd either like to fix it, or get an original replacement. Gentle preliminary pokings don't seem to be helping it work. Aftermarket ones from Agriline etc are just nothing like.

Any help much appreciated!

probably easiest, a small motorbike one would likely fit, nothing too them. Just a coil / metal diaphragm basically, should be easy enough to adapt the workings to suit, leaving the shell original..

They spring contacts rust closed.
If you open it you may be able to clean it.
I take it you have checked for continuity through it?

Its probably because the brakes dont work

I've put 12V on it and nothing happens. The centre stud has snapped. It looks like this should pass through to the outside of the back case.
Any ideas on salvaging this one?
I don't like the idea of a false one, everything else is original so I don't want to spoil it.

Engine fully rebuilt to factory spec, hydraulics overhauled, and it started first time. Few bits to finish on the electrics, the wheels to sort, and i've just started getting the tin work to look a bit straighter than it did.

It's come on more in the last 10 months than the last 10 years, mostly due to my 5'15" friend

The old style Lucas car horn will fit that enclosure

Check the coil for continuity and try cleaning the points circled in Yellow.

Hope you're going to renew the mounting springs when you've mended the horn. You will also need to rebuild the contact actuator.
Personally I'd put a new one inside and just keep the casing, but if you wish to rebuild it there's a couple of vids on YT showing what you are missing:

Didn't the Lucas design come from Altette Horns? Certainly looks similar

Thanks. I'd found this before but the videos not good enough to see what i am missing - i've freeze framed and played it back and its a bit useless tbh

Right - i'm missing all that. With 12V across the 2 wires i assume it should do something though?

It will energise the coil and pull in the diaphragm, and nothing else. Without that stud to open the contacts, and de-energise the coil, it'll sit in that position until kingdom come.
