Video editing software

I did a search but found nothing conclusive

I’ve just ordered one of the cheap go pro copies and plan to stick it on my roof rack when I go off roading this weekend

I will need some software to chop out the (hopefully) good bits from the dreary bits and make a vaguely interesting watch

Ideally fairly resource light, the desktop is in pieces so I’m on the laptop, windows 10 if that matters?

"Any Video Converter" lets you convert to loads of different formats and chop bits out. Otherwise I just use MS Movie Maker. I've tried loads and they either don't work or are too complicated.

Used pinicle when I was edditing a lot of HD video. Worked well was inuitive to use.

I used and loved Windows Movie Maker but it doesn't work on Windows 10. I then bought a copy of Filmora and quite enjoyed that, but it's pretty expensive (I bought the £60 "lifetime for one PC" offer and, of course, got a new PC so now can't use it!).

So, after a bit of research, I ended up with Lightworks and I have to say that it's an astonishingly powerful bit of software for the money, which is £0.00!

The downside is that it is definitely not easy to pick up as it's aimed at the serious amateur / professional market, but I'm amazed at the amount of free video tutorials offered by the creators of the software. There are paid-for versions, but the free one seems to do everything I could ever imagine needing.
So it needs a bit of investment, but I think it's worth considering.

The camera I have ordered (arrives today ) can be controlled from a phone/tablet so I should be able edit a bit as I go by stopping and starting, however I will probably end up with a collection of short clips that I will want to stitch together

It's a shame they charge for movie maker now

You can use the default photo viewer for cutting clips down. The method isn't obvious and I can't quickly recall how it's done. Give it a try though.

Avidmux will cut sections of video and either save or delete section and it's FREE.

I just did one earlier. It's the "Photos" application and the edit button is on the overlay. Slide the progress bar buttons in from both ends to select the part you want and then save it. Very quick.

As @skotl says, Lightworks provides a very comprehensive free version, if you're thinking of doing a fair bit of editing it's worth learning. For a one-off you might be better with something a little more straightforward.

I have used handbrake for converting video formats, I believe it can also be used to trim videos but I have never used that function. Plus its free.

I just did one earlier. It's the "Photos" application and the edit button is on the overlay. Slide the progress bar buttons in from both ends to select the part you want and then save it. Very quick.

Had a quick bash with that but I wanted to chop a couple of sections from 2 of the clips and couldn’t work it out, very good for a quick edit tho

I used Lightworks and got some semi decent results
