My record has decided its time to play up and has started "sticking" when first winding it out.
It only occurs if the jaws are completely shut up or maybe up to 5mm open as a starting point. Start to unwind and instead of the jaws opening, the spring gets more and more compressed (can feel it binding) until pop - the jaw then jumps and takes up the play. It will then unwind absolutely fine.
Its repeatable over and over and like i say if the jaws are anything more than 5mm (or so) open, this will never happen, it just unwinds properly.
It was pretty damn clean but I've had it apart anyway, cleaned up all the surfaces that slide, tried a bit of oil, tried a bit of grease, tried anything I could find that was slippery - nothings making a difference.
I'm at a bit of a loss on this - The only thought I've got is do the springs go weak? It was quite literally fine 2 weeks ago and this week it just started playing up from the off so seems unlikely to me, but beyond that these things really aren't complicated enough for me to missing the obvious...surely
