Vfd wiring help

As the title says , i bought an abb acs50 the other day to run my milling machine , i don't have trouble normally with wiring but the control wiring of this vfd has me confused.
The diagram is on page 14 of the pdf below

Can anyone tell me where the com wire goes to on the switch ? The switch is not a momentary switch i have been told (in the diagram).

THe common of the switches would be the +12V terminal.

I think i've bought a pig in a poke , i can't get any sort of life out off this thing. Should have bought japanese ,

It says in the instructions that the start function resets the drive after a fault trip , so the start isn't a start at all.

You're right, the drawing is a bit confusing. As above the +12V is the supply all the switches

Did you wire up a potentiometer for the speed? Looks like without one, it will be set to 0 speed.

Without an speed input, it will error trip.

I am not getting any trip errors though shenion, i don't want to fit a pot as i am happy to use the machines gearbox so i know what speeds i am getting. I will try to fit one and see if i can get the thing to work , if not its going back.

Looks liek it only trips id AI offset is enabled, will probably default to 0 with no pot.

I think i have an old radio there i can blag a pot off , i might try that tomorrow and see if i can get the ****** to work.

If you just want fixed speed at 50Hz, jumper the SPEED/AI terminal to the +10V terminal.

Vfd

Forgive, me.
The VFD is 220v / 3 phase out, The motor should be a Dual voltage one, and you do have the jumpers set to "Delta" 220 V.
Just a thought.

yes stan , i did have the mill under power before using the vfd off my lathe just to see it running, i had to return that vfd to the lathe though and bought this abb one specifically for the mill. the motor is thankfully dual voltage and in delta.

Would it be practical to have the machines on a dedicated socket and plugs so you could just use the Lathe VFD?? and be able to power both machines individually as and when required.( swapping the plugs)

Got the unit working today , it turns out it was the lack of a pot for speed control that was causing the issue, i have to find a suitable metal enclosure for it now.

I run lathe and a mill from one VFD, albeit not simultaneously: the interlock circuits of both machines pass through a contactor that selects which machine gets the VFD output and prevents the other from being used. Both machines are permanently wired, no need to change plugs over. Additional machines could be wired in with extra contactors and interlocking as required.
Also my VFD is 415v out rather than 220 so the motors can be left in Star configuration for quicker installs

I was going to use the vfd from my lathe to power the mill as well , as i don't share my shed with anyone only one machine at a time will ever be used. Its just i had the chance to buy the abb one very (imho) cheaply and i was told that the vfd should be set up the individual motor, that maybe overstated though.

Well yes, in an ideal install, but if you configure a resonable ramp-up curve to suit the inertia of both motors, let it free-wheel to a stop instead of using electric braking and adjust current limit settings to be a good compromise, you won't go far wrong (eg if one motor takes 3A max and the other 5A, set the limit for a bit over 3A as a start and see how the bigger one gets on - you'll probably find you won't get anywhere near full load on most machines used outside of a factory).

All done and dusted now anyway. I am surprised at how cheap the inverters have gone in the past couple of years, priced them 4 or 5 years ago and nearly got a nosebleed, cheap as chips now.

mines all wired in a wee plastic box, with the 3 way switch and a pot, Fwd, stop, Rev, speed control.

Another few questions about this vfd, i bought a switch as seen in the pictures below, its a three position switch, two normally open switches and an off position in the middle. I was going to use one side for forward , the other for reverse. In addition i was going to use a seperate momentary switch for the jog function. All that will work is the forward function, although the wiring is correct according to page 14 in the manual. Any ideas anyone ? its not critical if the other functions will work but i would like them to.
