Microbore must of been light years ahead back in the 60s

I believe they were invented (or become mainstream)for the devlieg so you had a fixed bar for production work, once set the operator didn’t touch them.
Only a small range of movement but the accuracy and finish is excellent .

I had a permanent kuroda and Narex and d'Andrea search on eBay set up but they're just mental nowadays. Wish I bought a set when they were about £400-600 used with all the bits.

I bought mine pre YouTube for sub £100 each

Gave my Wohlhaupter boring and facing head away many years ago, hardly ever used it and I knew the the guy I gave it to would.
Also gave away my smaller one and I am kicking myself about that every so often I need very precise holes bored, and I have just got a small job in that I could do with it

The Job I did with the boring head I knew I could have done on the CNC Mill. But I am familiar with the boring head and fast too. I know for a fact that if I had started setting the job up on the mill it would take me longer. It's just the way it is, I need to become more familiar with the Mill and it's setup, the CNC that is, and I will get faster but the manual boring head is old familiar territory so easier and faster for me, on this occasion.

Following Brad's comment about the prices, I had a quick look on ebay and I best get on and sort out the CNC familiarity as I could sell the Kuroda for about seven times what I paid for it

I bought mine at a roup for about £20 many moons ago, prices are crazy now.

I did...and it arrived 2 days later. .

If I paid myself my hourly rate whilst messing about with stuff like this I would be a wealthy man. The time I have invested in this project alone far outweighs the cost of just buying one. But I wouldn't have had to use any of those really necessary tools and the equipment I bought now would I?

Well, here it is, true to form, Simply Bearings package arrived without fuss this morning and everything in the package to finish the project:



Needed a couple of Bush/Spacer things so out with the tube stuff again, .30cal this one as I was putting a 12mm hole up it, again, machines lovely:



Need to get down the scrapyard and get a gas ram for the job, I will have a look at the way others are mounted and copy that. Also, it is quite a big thing so I will need to look at where I am going to mount it:

Well it is all finished, but with a slight modification. The lines on one of my rulers must be getting thicker, the head wasn't exactly ninety degrees to the bench so I made a double ended adjusting nut thingie in the middle of one of the arms, had to be 8mm as I had an 8mm LH tap and Die:








Works Perfic now:

I suppose I could have tidied the welds up a bit but I would rather not the dust if you don't mind. Besides, I have broad shoulders, I can take it!
