Very temporary lighting

Hi

I was just wondering. I am rigging up some temporary lights. How many 100watt bulbs can I run ? I currently have two just in line. If I do more will i need to make a ring?

I am just using a 13amp plug . Will be disconnected at night. I have 1mm twin and earth

Or just get a sparky in . Just struggling for cash at the moment

An average house might have 10 lights on one 1 or 1.5mm radial circuit on a 6A mcb, you could run a few more on that with no problems but put a 5 amp fuse in the plug.

Depends on a few things, but no need for a ring.

Make sure they are wired in parallel (ie a live and netural going into the light fitting and coming back out of the same fitting to the next). If your twin and earth is clipped direct (not covered in insulation or in conduit) then the limiting factor will be your 13a plug. off this you can draw around 2800w but best to keep it lower as it also depends on the length of the run. If It where me i would stick a 6A fuse in the plug this lets you draw around 1300w and imho is safer on 1.0mm2.

Most standard light fittings also dont have earths on them, if you are running off a socket check it is RCD or RCBO protected.

I don' think they are in parrel tbh. I wold prefer more but wires are not really my thing and as said I am going to get spark.

What does it mean/ what can I do to add more one

if its in parallel it means both the earth and neutral go into the light fittings then come out to the next. if its series the live goes into the light fitting and comes out then only the last light has the neutral. It should be in parallel, all you have to do to fit more lights is take both the live and neutral of any fitting.

I have been st Google for ages will I still be able to do a parallel even though it a single plug.

I am running a long extension up to my shed till I. Get my armoured cable in that I have.

My dad used to have these festoon type bulb holders that never needed any wiring in, there were two spikes in the holder that stabbed the wire sheath into the leccy cable . They were something like the ones below but for the life of me I cant remember what they are called.

Re the original question - the answer is 30 100W bulbs will max out a 13A socket. The initial surge will briefly be higher, but shouldn't pop any fuses or trip circuit breakers. No need for a ring circuit. If going for the full 30 x 100W, make sure the cable closest to the plug can take 13Amps, as that is where the current will be highest. Each 100W bulb will draw slightly over 0.4A. The current rating for 1mm twin and earth is 16A, so it should be OK.
