I wasnt being pedantic, all I was getting at really, is that weaving welds is not a good habit to get into. If it came accross as arrogant i do apologise it wasnt meant that way :/
Ok City and guilds instructors teach you to weave welds, thats fair enough. But one thing to bear in mind is, everytime you go from one side across to the other, there is a chance that one of the little blobs of silicon you can see along the toes of the weld in the picture posted by RichieW, there is a chance it could roll into the weld, and end up as a cavity.
If the job required testing, and the testing was a bend/break test or MPI test, then would be ok id have thought, if the test was being xrayed/ultrasound tested, or cut and etched, It might cause a problem.
