Vertical twin wall flue--Broken cowl

was up on the flat roof of the Daughters Garage and noticed the Cowl off the 60mm outlet was missing--searched the garden and found two pieces which in their early life were joined together, and clipped into the three holes on the 63 OD pipe taking the fumes away. Boiler,Baxi System 100 HE Plus. The air inlet below this pipe is undamaged.

Now I suspect next door has been over the roof to gain access into their garden, satellite/ariel whatever man,- but I cant prove they have and I cant prove their ladders damaged the cowl.

The cowel is a 2006 model and was made by M&G Group flue systems, they were taken over by Interactive Flue systems Ltd down in Beachampton, Bucks. An E mail has been dissapointing in that they cant help.
Surley you can buy just a cowl??-- the only possibility I have found is on E bay. 260965309356-- any good????????? I think it will fit.

anyone any leads??? where to get one or got a S/H one off a boiler exchange, or an old vertical flue

You will get one at a price!! but the part must be made for that flue/boiler and you cannot mix and match.
I have fitted loads of vertical flues over the years but not Baxi ones and
Personally I would repair it with stainless straps as you suggest if you do change it you would most likely have to buy the complete top section including the concentric flue through the roof as they normally come as a unit.
If you do change it ring Baxi technical first as there may be an updated flue that will fit and be easier to obtain.
In the meantime any water going down the center pipe will just drain out of the condensate drain but water going between the inner and outer pipe will stay in the boiler and may cause more damage.

All avenues of sourcing a replacement part have drawn a blank, the cheapest replacement fitted cowl is over £400.00.From a registered company.
So I have to bite the bullett and as I had thought maybe 4 new support legs in stainless and I think copper rivetts.

Flue outlet

Hi i take it that the boiler flue is not a balanced flue ie air intake as well as exhaust. Then the terminal of the vertical flue you show in the photos used to be called a Chinese hat flue terminal and could be got for most sizes of flue, maybe with the odd adaptor to make it fit

If it is it gives the vertical flue terminal part number as 242802
I did a Google and it comes up for sale in lots of places

the part may have been updated over the years the boiler has been fitted.

If you are unsure look on the boiler data plate or instructions book for the GC (gas council) number if you can find it or the model and serial number (only on the data plate usually) and ring Baxi to confirm that this is the correct flue. Baxi technical enquiries on 08448711555.

I would still repair the old one and use "monel metal" rivets with a bit of duralac paste to help stop corrosion. I don't think copper and ally is a good mix especially in the moist acidic fumes. These rivets are readily available from any boat place or chandlers and are used to join stainless fittings to an ally mast.

Twin wall flue

Excellent- yes thats the Boiler, installed 2006. serviced and maintained under "Baxi " yearly scheme,(HEATEAM) She has the Original Baxi book and all the paperwork.
Locally-I can find the complete flue fairly easily, but as this cowl just springs into four sockets on the outside of the Exhaust pipe, 60mm, (Twin Wall) I thought it would be so easy to just buy this broken piece. Sadly thats not the case. Looking round bungalows and flat roof outlets, its a very common outlet, I know they all look the same-ish.
I`ll do the repair on this broken one and try and catch a heating engineer see if they ever get S/H ones from upgrades etc. As I said the top hat bit,its got D&G, manufactured 6/05 and is 108mm diam, The collar below this is 76mm and enlarges out to 96mm and is about 36mm deep, + the prongs to secure it and the upstand prongs to support the top cover.
The felt work is all sealed round the outlet and a replacement meant disturbing the felt seal and all the hassle of replacing with new felt flashing and hot pitch.

PS try and make the repair as invisible as possible as it is against regs to alter from the original spec (even if it is for the better) regulations gone mad the service guy's will most likely only have a quick glance at it.
