I'm running about 4 heavy duty plugs from screwfix with 2.5mm flex...never had an issue with themJust don't waste your time at Screwfix if you're after a proper heavy duty 13 amp plug - their "heavy duty" plugs only take a 1.5.mm wire. what you want is something like this, that will actually take a 2.5 mm cable.

Here's what Screwfix say about their "heavy duty" plugs - I'm not saying you can't jam a 2.5 mm cable in there, but they are becoming more like B&Q every day.I'm running about 4 heavy duty plugs from screwfix with 2.5mm flex...never had an issue with them
Its not even a case of jamming the 2.5mm in there...granted i bought mine a while ago but it comfortably takes 2.5mm...Here's what Screwfix say about their "heavy duty" plugs - I'm not saying you can't jam a 2.5 mm cable in there, but they are becoming more like B&Q every day.

Hi thanx for advice i have done what you suggested and didnt encounter two much trouble getting wires into the plugyes its a 16 amp plug...get a 16 amp socket from screw fix, a length of decent flex, i think 2.5 is the largest you can fit, and a heavy duty 13 amp plug (because they have a larger opening for the thicker cable)...
make sure you have a 13amp fuse in the standard plug and be ready to blow fuses if you try to run it too high...but on a 2.5mm rod you should be fine.
i run all my welders off those blue plugs as it stops people wanting to borrow them, but i have a fly lead for when im working at someone elses house.
Hi thanx for advice i have done what you suggested and didnt encounter two much trouble getting wires into the plug
Managed some realy gud looking welds on 2.5 i did blow some fuses at higher amps
Also tripped the rcd in workshop a couple of times
When i started to use 3.2 cast rods at 145 amps the house main fuse box tripped
Reset ok but the above welder won't fire up i have checked plug
Any ideas LH
Many thanxNo idea sorry, not familiar with the machine although there will be people that here that are. I'd check connection in all plugs though and double check fuse connections
