Vertical mig welding

Hi. I'm about to do a weld test for a company and have been advised I need to do a root and cap vertically. Now I was tough to do a series of triangles and that method is not acceptable with the client. Can you advise on settings to do a vertical root on 10mm thick t joint. Also settings to run a cap over neatly.

Basically start at a voltage any setting with in reason. Say 4 if you have 10 voltage settings. Turn you wire feed back to where its welding to tip of the torch almost, now advance your wire feed a small bit that your just getting enough wire into the pool. You will see the wire going in and melting, then nothing then it going again, it could b called globular transfer i think? Weld 50 mm like this using a z pattern. Stop check to see if your burning in you should know. too cold up the volts and repeat method. To hot uncontrollable. Simples

Confusing that your doing a T fillet and a cap yet can weave on the cap? If I read this right it's not possible to put a cap in you see without this.
Triangles blow my mind a bit the trick is pause slightly at the toes and fairly zip across to avoid a crowning to the bead.
You need to read the wp and understand what they want this is the most important factor
Had to do this myself only the other week for a job, not something I do s lot with mig so I needed those practice runs to get back into it but without reading the wp I might have practiced the wrong thing don't fall into that trap many do

The client will require for me to do a test on two plates welded in a T formation. First they require a vertical root weld and then a cap weld after. This is for structual strength due to the nature of the work. From what I gather the weld will be tested afterwards

The client has requested a root weld and cap after. I would usually just triangle the fillet. I. This instance I need to get a penatrating root weld before I cap.

Settings I can't help with, but the method I can.

Root - just a simple, straight run pushing up. The weaved cap is a simple weave, the important part is to pause at the edges for what seems like a very, very long time, whip across to the other side and pause again. No time spent in the middle on the cap or you'll get an ugly mess of weld sat on top of the root.

I have hardly ever known my settings or particularly cared personally, all done off what you see and what you hear
On step settings 5 mm my mig is 3 big 2 small wire just over 8 on 5mm then trim up. I don't even know if my feed is metric or imperial. What o do know is a lot depends on a lot. Not least if the dials tell fibs

Surely they will give you a wps to work too? That will tell you most things setting wise.

Don't pause for too long at the edges, I count in my head, 1 full second then whip across the centre of the puddle and pause for 1 full second at the other side. Also make sure your voltage is low enough to avoid undercut at the edges and keep a slight uphill angle on the torch.
I assume this is solid wire mig not flux cored?
