Hi guys,
Been mulling this one over for a couple of days now, and reading up on here, but it seems everyone has their own methods and steps they follow when spraying a vehicle. Most of the threads and guides available however are for spraying directly to bare metal upwards, not generally repairs.
So to cut if short, at the moment, I'm tidying up a couple of vehicles and a JetSki, so a bit of a mix of surfaces to go at really.
Obviously the cars/van are steel shell with plastic/grp bumpers and rub strips, the majority of the bodywork is in good condition, however I've a couple of panels to weld in to both at the moment, these are coated in a black primer from the factory.
Will the black primer be a suitable base to start from, or should I remove this coating wherever possible and apply an etch primer to the bare steel?
Will rubbing the existing paint down around the areas the panels have been welded in be sufficient to allow me to coat the areas in high build primer?
Where only rust has been removed from the bodywork, back to bare metal, will applying high build primer be sufficient, or should I apply an etch primer to these areas also?
Can I use a rattle can primer on all of the above mentioned areas, over a Cellulouse (sp?) etch, then a Cellulouse (sp?) top coat?
If anyone would be kind enough to offer a step by step guide as to what order coats should be done in, sanding grades, etc that would be excellent. I can't seem to find a post anywhere now...
All help is highly appreciated...
