so i am on the lookout for a small van
1.5 diesel
apart from the noisy cam chain these sometimes have, what else to look out for?
we have one at work with a trap door arangement thru the bulkhead, and the passenger seat folds flat to allow 3m legths to be carried... not quite sure what spec this is, but would be handy...
place i go to they all seem to be ex enterprise rentals, so guess they will have been ragged, all at about 60k miles.
thoughts ?
opinions ?
am i better going with one of the clones with a different badge ?

A far as im aware they are just built under license so basically the same as the equivalent Peugeot/Citroen, the 1st couple of build years were pretty traumatic by all accounts with many many teething problems, but no different to any other make I guess

I've been driving these from new for 4 years or so since finally kicking and screaming my way out of transit connects. They seem pretty good, much better than the connect, but I did have 2 early ones have the same abs fault in quick succession and have to go in for a complete body loom.

My colleagues say the Peugeot version seem to be better, better spec and don't have the wiring issues, for some reason.

I've got a LWB Vauxhall Combo 2300 Sportive work van, it's the 1.5 diesel manual gearbox with the bulkhead hatch. Only 35k in 3 years from new but that's very hard London driving with a 10 mile blast up and down the M1 most days, no trouble with DPF etc so far...
It averages 45mpg BUT that's because I sit in it with the heater / A/C on doing paperwork, in normal use I'd say you would get over 50mpg with no trouble. Did I mention it gets driven hard?!!!
It's used very little oil between services, no breakdowns (yet), handles like a pig on stilts and I find the seating position uncomfortable, the gear stick is also too far forward as I think that's to accommodate the stupid middle seat!
It's got built in satnav and DAB radio with bluetooth connectivity for music etc, cruise control and speed limiter for those pesky 20mph limits!
To be honest it's better than I thought it would be!
The Citroen version has a very wierd tiny steering wheel with all the radio & cruise controls hidden behind it and that's hard to use.
Shamefully Toyota even sell a rebadged version

Just another warning here but depending where you live and what sort of roads you drive on I'd say that its it's dangerously slow if you do a lot of overtaking on single carriageway roads!

mines the same spec as dobbslc.

i wouldnt say its slow, the connect was far slower

on fuel economy, id disagree, you might get 50mpg on motorway work but im tracked for driving behaviour and spend 90% of my time on 30+ mile trips on a roads, 40-50k miles a year. i get 43mpg at best. ive seen as low as 39 on days i spend entirely on single track roads. ie seen 48mpg once at the end of the day after filling up, and that was a entire day sat at 60 on dual carriageways with a couple of short trips into towns.

Ive got a 2017 combo 1.6 diesel and over the 111k since new it has averaged 36.5 mpg ! Im getting a new van this year and the new combo seems much better I had a belingo before and its seams to be just a reboot of that

Mine averages 45mph with a lot of time sitting in traffic and I also have a heavy foot!
Mine will do roughly 60mpg at about 50mph, I don't carry must gear though.
