Vauxhall Coil Packs

Hi, the wife has a , 58 plate ,Zafira 1.6 . It had a misfire/ hesitation at around, 1800 -2300 rpm . Only fault code stored was for P0171, system too lean , bank 1.
Talked to an ex Vauxhall mechanic. He said coil pack would be issue, as it was a known problem.
Changed the pack. An after market on , from motor factors. Car ran great for a week , now it is back to exactly the same fault.
Are the coil packs that bad and what causes them to fail?
Also if it was misfiring, , would it not put up a code for running rich?
The EGR valve. On the end of the cylinder head has been previously blanked off.

If its running lean wouldnt it be more likely to be oxygen sensor? there were a lot of rubbish aftermarket coil packs about as well

Check all the hoses on the induction side of things post-Maf?

All of the above and possibly gummed up injectors, injector cleaner is cheap.

I spent far far far too long diagnosing the same fault on a 1.8 Vectra, the same engine with a longer stroke

Clue was in the live data, knock sensor going mad and holding the engine back

Turns out it had recently had a new timing belt, tensioner had failed even though new and the belt going tight then loose was causing knock
