Van Air Intake and Floods

My air intake is fine. I hate it when the water comes in the doors, takes ages to dry the carpets though

Easy in easy out, as they say. Have you read the LR Water Ingress Manual, all 35 pages of it

Was watching the news earlier and there was footage of a idiot driving his hatchback car into the water and then it just stops and his headlights go on and off a few times, there was already a couple of cars stuck in the water before he tried.

It wasnt that deep, he'd of made it but, drove in far too fast, the water got in through the grille.

cant you just pull the intake pipe off the air filter ?

you might get slightly more noise, and microscopically less mpg as the air intake will be warm but that's about the only downsite

I was just thinking the same, but modifying the air intake so it draws in air from the top of the engine bay, not a full snorkel as such but just raising it up.

I'd be more worried about what was swimming round my bits

Can you not just unclip the air box, before venturing into a flood, the pipe into the engine is usually quite high up on top of the airbox and just let it breath unfiltered air for the duration of the flood.

NO SCUBA GEAR EITHER !!

The serious boys extend the loom and mount the ecu in a waterproof box higher in the cab than in the seatbox! An older tdi is a safer bet for deep wading.

Perhaps the serious boys do, but I doubt it was offered as a Somerset levels upgrade on the options list when the school run Chelsea tractor was ordered.

one way of keeping the engine out of floods is to dive like this,I used to use the same principle on motorcycles going through puddles.

Camel Trophy ended in 2000, last year where competitors drove Land Rovers was 1998 and they were Freelanders supported by 300tdi 110. TD5 didn't come into production cars until 1998. As far as I'm aware TD5 engines were never used on the Camel Trophy but they were used on the G4 Challenge.

Hi, That's right, it's another case of a brand name describing a function or object, like doing the hoovering with a vacuum cleaner. Forgive them, they know not what they say.

Unfortunately you need to remove 5 Torx screws to access the air filter on a Trafic so no quick mod before wading.

I drive a transporter now, and it was up to the windscreen

If had to drive through anything over bumper height would probably stop and pull the pipe off and stuff a rag inside it.

But on our Peugeot 407 after a service the joint between the intake pipe and air filter box was not reconnected. the thing drove like an absolute pig until it was found and reconnected.
Felt like a misfire at low revs and had little acceleration.
If i had not seen it myself i would not of believed the affect it had.
