Vacuum Pumps - School me please

I bought one from here years ago for vacuum resin infusion.
It worked fine running overnight.

Vacuum chamber and plastic for lid?

hmm... you could pump water through a venture and use the suction from that? I've never used one but the guys on the bio diesel foum use them to suck methanol into their reactors... can't remember the numbers but they can get a hell of a vacuum going

Ive got the OG at home. While she pulls a good vacuum, its never long enough.

Im looking for a Vac pump to degas resin etc. Small bushes etc, though I might make some doors (600x1900x50) from carbon mat.
Have not a clue as to pros v cons regarding any type or make?

Suggestions and advise greatly received.

I have a brake booster vacuum pump from a Volvo umm.... V70 diesel, iirc. 12v and designed to run for ages, I assume. Quite cheap, too.

@cr500dom good question. Ive a load of prepreg CF that's whey oot date. Hate to sling it so I thought of laminating it to make a some doors.

^^^^ Yes try some samples first, Is it heat cured? a lot of pre preg had to be stored at low temperatures. Use by date will be short. A local supplier shifts a lot of out of date epoxy resins, though most works i have seen several spectacular failures where out of date epoxy has not cured.
I wont take the risk on an expensive project. But if you already got it & it cures go for it!
As for vac pumps, I bought a generic two stage one of ebay a few years back & also have an edwards robbed from a condemmed school vacumn former.
I used to use it mainly for veneering & a bit of resin infusion, consumable costs are bloody high though!

I was going to make a bagging pump from a diesel pug vacuum pump, which sounded OK not that I ever looked at one.
I found an Edwards pump with motor in a little cabinet with a glass jar on the top, it came from a hospital scrap pile.
Clearly nothing wrong with it as I was holding the vac on leaking bags for hours. Volume was very low, motor is probably
1/4horse or smaller, I bag mudguards in bin bags and I have to seal all the leaks[mastic] to pull a vacuum.

I tried a vacuum mixing pot. Normally mixed resin frothed up like a badly poured pint when stuck in a vac pot.
When vac mixed resin was stuck in the vacuum pot it had a few bubbles but didn't froth up.

Someone who mailed me about bagging said he altered the valving of a sealed fridge pump and it worked well.
He did say he had put it all on a webpage, but it was called something like 'the little sucker' and I guess that's going
to get a lot of google results.
