V belt size

Hi all I have a honda rotavoter the belt has got torn and chunks out of it.

I can't work out size belt I need the old belt is 15.45mm wide 10mm thickness outside of belt is 39 inch inside is 36 inch.

Is there any normal v belt will fit
I looked at b belts 17mm x 11mm would these be too big.

I seen online I can get a honda f501 belt not sure if right size as the machine is second hand and could be wrong belt in it.

There was a UK company giving these out for free, they tell you your pulley angle and type of belt, its a huge head start, I just for the life of me cant remember what they were called.

The above has enough information that you could draw the belt profile, cut it out and try.

they are so helpful....all this can be sorted over the phone and they will post just 1 belt....
I used to buy my belts from them when I lived in France .....even inc post they were 15% of the frog price....
take the belt off....draw a line across the width and measure the length accuratley....
along with the width they will know what u have......it'll be just a few quid.....if it's available get a nothed belt.....
every belt I bought where poss was a Kevlar but u wont need that....

SPB belts are 16.5mm wide I think. Could it have worn

I would assume it's a B belt.

the old fashioned parts places used to have a belt measure on the wall , like two semi circles / half pulleys on a slide , it was a fast way to get belts sorted ,,, the guys near us do belts and hydraulics , try an online search for your area and see who turns up

Sounds like a B39, pretty cheap to buy. If it turns out too long just cut it and overlap the ends to get the proper length by subtracting the overlap length.

Only problem with these, is that if there is a tensioning pulley bearing on the back of the belt, and a clutch lever applies or releases the tension, an ordinary belt will not last. Even more so if it involves pulleys turning and the belt stationary.

I would suggest getting the proper thing from a Honda dealer.

I worked in the Agri industry for many years, but mainly dealing with mowing equipment. Many, many times people would not pay for the right belts, and just wanted standard A, B, or C section belts, which we also sold, they never lasted long in most applications, and not at all if the belt was designed to slip in the pulleys.

Why ? No idea, not even with 20 odd years experience, but obviously down to material and construction.

We have a machine at work which has a bunch of belts driving a shaft via multi-vee pulleys (10 I think) and it's designed to slip at quite high torque. Over time the pulleys wear until the belts stop riding on the vee flanks and start riding on the bottom of the vee groove. They don't transmit much power then

Thank you for your messages. I took some photos.
I measured the pulley sizes big one is 5.5 inch. Small one is 3 inch and length between centers are 12 inch online calculator says it needs a 37.5 belt

On an answer site I found on Google says 1/2 X37.5 is length

Belt has some numbers 52-38-2 n
S2-38-2n belt can't see them that good.
38 I think means belt length.

I been looking at the metal cover and it was dinted in the middle that's what took chunks off belt.
I had to move the leaver for the tensioner pulley from my left hand to my right as I can't grip it. Not sure if that what's damaged the belt.

I put a rope around the pulleys and it's 36 inch touching the inside grove of the pulleys.
I have no instruction book I looked online I found one but not sure right machine can't find a year on it.
Part number on manuals what matches yo to the number on engine says

Honda 22431-733-752​

Belt, 37.5

On engine I it has honda gx140 1686316

Standard v belts don't like a tensioner pulley on the outside its bending them the wrong way.

Looks like a Kevlar belt, as commonly used on ride on mower cutter decks, which are probably around the 15/16mm width (IIRC 5/8").

And I'd guess you're probably looking for a 5L size belt.
(and to confuse you length wise, 5L belts are typically measured by the outside length, whereas A/B belts are measured by the Pitch length)
