Those pics ?You can do that but it's better to turn the pulley and the motor shaft hole in one go.
How about theose pics?

Thanks pete. So it maybe prudent to get a good motor first then and work around that. Something to think about peteYou can do that but it's better to turn the pulley and the motor shaft hole in one go.

You would ideally need a motor first, yes...the pulley needs to be a decent fit on the motor shaft so getting a pulley made then changing the motor could raise the issue of the motor shaft being a different sizeThanks pete. I may have to get the whole machine painted and reasembled ready for a motor and take final measurements before buying motor. In meantime do some research on motor for this machine. There is no speed chart on machine peteYou probably couldn't use that pulley as a direct template because it's likely that the motor pulley has different recesses, off-sets, bore and keyway but some measurements could take care of that. What you need is to send basic info first.
Post a picture of the machine, its speed chart and the motor data plate.

V-Belt Pulley Groove Specifications: Dimensions & Tolerances
Technical specifications for V-belt, Micro-V, & Polyflex JB pulleys. Includes groove dimensions, tolerances, & standards. Ideal for engineering reference.studylib.net
I have no bore size as yet as not sure if motor i have works. Not sure how to measure step sizes and there was no belt when purchased not much help I'm afraid. I thought I'd just send existing one away to get copied if i find someone who would be prepared to make one.
I really appreciate your offer of help in this matter 6ply but I think I'll have to try and workout how to measure the thing properly. Not easy as i have ME and suffer badly with brain fog so digesting and holding on to info is exceptionally difficult. I thought all I had to do was ask on this forum the required pulley size for my model pillar drill and hey presto .I have previously owned a bank of 4 of those drills. The original pulleys have an unusual step pattern that does not match the regular/even steps found in most multi step pulleys. Consequently, for anyone missing a single pulley it is difficult to source a suitable replacement at a reasonable price. The effect of having two mismatched pulleys is that belt tension will change when different speeds are selected.
If you still need a pulley and want one that matches what you've already got, I could take a look for you. I have a large box full of pulleys. You'd need to confirm the bore size and type (plain, keyed, etc) step sizes and belt profile (eg A-section). If you are able to modify bore size that may make things easier.
The issue of a mismatched pulley/shaft isn't huge, just means having to get the pulley modified and/or a sleeve made for the shaftI may have to get the whole machine painted and reasembled ready for a motor and take final measurements before buying motor. In meantime do some research on motor for this machine. Thanks broken biker
As the drill has a back gear (I'm assuming it does as mine did) the OP may find he rarely needs to change the pulley ratio anyhow. If the step sizes are similar then the size is largely unimportant. There is always some latitude for belt tension adjustment.
Were they the original motors.I found some old photos. These motors were taken from my bank of meddings drills. Check the pulleys...

Is that a 5 step pulley. Mine is a 4. Small one 108mm large 173mm. Your small pulley looks smaller than mineThe original motor pulley had a 5/8" diameter keyed shaft. Personally, I wouldn't waste your time and money trying to find an original one just use whatever you can get.
