I made a quick tack without a mask on I shut my eyes but blinked them open for a split second. (out of habit. never welded anything without a mask before but I was in a pickle. Just so use to looking at what I am doing.)

Completely dumb yes. never doing it again.

I didn't get any bright spots etc after (like you would if you see a bright light)
I am just wondering what I can expect if anything

How long it takes to know if you have done anything

How long it takes to go away

I had normal eye glasses on if that makes a difference. weld so at arms length away

if I wanted to get some uv proof safety glasses for general workshop wearing and to protect from accidental flashes what should I be looking for. They need to be prescription

If your prescription specs are polycarbonate then UV protection is built in. If they are CR39 then even though the optical clarity is better the UV protection must be added as a coating.

they wont cert cr39 as safety glasses ,,,, but having made hundreds of pairs I would happily wear cr39 in a standard frame in a workshop ,,, unless the company is paying the saving is huge , biggest difference is the side shielding thats on safety glasses ,,,

After doing a bit of research my glasses are cr39 from reglaze glasses direct. No coating. I assumed it was a gimmick but perhaps I should have included it!

It looks like something like these

mar coatings have their place , but if you leave your glasses on the car dash every day the sun will haze mar coatings and then its like looking through the bathroom window ,,,, I have both mar and clear glasses and most of the time I go for mar ,,,, but I was making my own glasses and just reglazing them if the coating broke down
