Hi, I have been hobby welding for about 20 years with a range of stick and some mig (Clarke 100e for bodywork) and have had burns above the glove but nothing serious.
However, I recently bought a Bester 190c and was welding T joints (25mm round tube X 2mm thickness) in a small garden shed for about 4 Hours on and off. Set at 17 volts which I work out to be about 95 to 105A, I had an auto darkening welding mask, leather gauntlets a sweatshirt and t shirt on my top half and arc proof class 2 trousers on.
I was sat down welding the pieces Infront of me on a box.
The next day, the whole inside of my legs was raw, as well as my chest, the next day my whole body , apart from my face and hands seems to be burnt.
Would anyone expect this to happen purely from UV reflecting in a small shed welding at around 100A for a few hours?
Coincidentally, I also started a course of penecillin after I had finished welding for a tooth abscess that afternoon, so this could potentially be a drug reaction too.
I have been to A and E who have told me to moisturise etc and I have finished the penecillin so things should clear up soon whatever the issue is.
Obviously the Drs aren't welding experts so wanted to see what you guys thought from the UV point of view.
The welder worked spot on though
Cheers
