Sorry guys another quick question.. Could I run the Mig without any gas the first time I use it quickly so I know what to expect.. If that makes sense just to check its all ok..Sorry for the daft questions.. :-)
If you want to test it, then yes you can.
You won't get any good welds without gas, they'll be horrid and porous. And if you're new to it, it won't help much.
A better way to test your nice new freebie is working OK electrically is to use a digital multi meter (DVM) between the torch tip and the earth clamp.
This measures the open circuit voltage (OCV), the voltage indicated before an arc initiates.
When triggered, over each of the six voltage settings, it should indicate (for this model, IIRC) between 21 vdc and 32 vdc.
If you find that range, then all good.
You will then very probably have to replace the original plastic torch liner (with curtain wire), the swan neck liner, tip and gas shroud.
