What exactly would happen if I put propane/butane into my MIG instead of Ar/CO2?
Theoretically it should work, but I'm probably wrong.

My reasoning was that the propane would burn, and scavenge all the O2 from the air immediately around the weld, creating CO2 and H2O. As it would be an unclean burn, CO and C would be produced, which would remove any rust.
There would only be a flame while actually welding, and the system is designed to run hotter than the flame.
The only problem I can see is the flame traveling back down the torch lead to the valve, but that shouldn't be much gas there.

Carbon inclusion tends to be a bad thing for steel - it'll tend to make the steel brittle and rust prone. generally you want carbon to be out of the way during welding.
The MIG welding nozzle isn't designed to burn propane. For a start the valve is in the wrong place. I'd place money on an explosion. It really would be a very silly thing to try.
