Using a 240V AC motor as a traction motor

My next stupid idea. I'd like to make a self moving generator as I don't want to carry it up the hill back to the house and it seems profligate to use to van to drive a couple of hundred metres.

All the golf carts, invalid carriages and the like I've seen have been DC motors for the obvious reason, likewise electric cars. What would the drawbacks of using a 240V motor be if any, it would save a lot of wiring and invertor complexity.

You want the genset to power the wheel motor ?
How about a hand drill, that gives you the speed control and Fwd/Rev ?
I can see a small worm gearbox on the rear axle, and the input shaft pointing straight up, chuck that in the drill.

Torque and Speed Control

Unless you use something like a variable speed gearbox from Kopp or something like that

Electric winch/hoist motor and gearbox would do, slow running, you could use a v belt and pulley attachment to drive an axle.

You could even fit a clutch!

Why go to all that trouble ?
Drill has all that ready to go, including a clutch if you want it.

Old running machine. Turn it upside down and stick the genny on top. One tracked vehicle. Simples

Get a cheapie Chinesium e-bike kit? Variable speed, and geared-down it'd do the job easily (the small wheels on the genny skid would achieve a lot of the down-gearing).

A mate built up his own e-mtb (2 actually), but one uses an e-bike bolt-on motor, and it's supplied by 2 Makita Drill batteries. It works well, and gives him a range of about 20km off-road on 2 batteries (& he can carry 2 spares in his backpack)
