using 125mm flap disks on a 115mm angle grinder

my local aldi has 125mm flap disks on sale at £0.99 for 4. If I make a new guard for a 115mm grinder, Im thinking that they should be fine on the smaller grinder, as the maximum speed of the discs is lower than the maximum speed of the grinder.

my thoughts are that I should be ok doing this, what do you guys think?

The disc's maximum needs to be higher than the grinder's. Or even.

You will be fine, I've used bigger discs without a guard (yes I know) and I know other members have made the guard bigger

Edit: I didn't read the bit on speed rating being different, this may change things

Doing as you plan increases the risk of the disc shattering, having taken a guy to hospital due to a disc shattering and ripping his throat I never take any risk with them at all.

At 99p for 4 I would not touch them with a bargepole.
Have a look at how little grinding material is on them.

yeah sorry I got that the wrong way round, the max speed of the disks is 12,250 rpm and the grinder is 11,000rpm

yeah I wouldn't try it with the disks going faster than the recommended rpm and I had one running at the correct speed shatter on me a few years ago and was glad I had welding gauntlets on

I bought some of their 125mm cutting discs, they just about fit in my Bosch grinder, as said as long as the speed is ok then they will be safe. They're not great though - I'm not sure if bother again!

One thing I wouldn't be certain of is if the flap discs would fit though - the cutting discs I bought only just fit in with the guard but I'd imagine if they were offset (ie not flat) they would catch on the guard.

Done it, used a 125mm fence, and machined up a new centre. Works treat

I have 3 Makita 115mm grinder that i altered the guards on to take the 125mm flapdiscs, Easy to do, Just cut off the outer rim of the guards then spring them open to clear the larger disc and re-weld onto the back plate filling in the small gap., dress up the welds and a coat of matching silver paint and you would never know that they have been touched.
