Used gas cylinders - Stirling area

I visited 5 scrap yards and metal recyclers today looking for used gas cylinders (and barrels) to try my hand at making a bbq and probably a smoker after that, but no luck at all.

One in Falkirk said to come back tomorrow as they're expecting some barrels - so that's good.
All the others said they had none (I could see a stack of old gas cylinders in one of their yards), and couldn't suggest where I might get any.

I've got a couple of propane tanks for the space heater, but they are from calor & flo-gas and I believe it's frowned upon (illegal) to empty those and chop them up as they're rented.

Any suggestions from folk on here?

Try ebay, gumtree or a local for sale/wanted community site. Although calor are rented they will only refund if the original paperwork is present, so you will find them for sale.

scrap yards wont except them as they will get in trouble if they except them there

use alternative places for them

gas bottles are only 3mmyou can make wood circles and round a sheet with them with wagon straps as ive done it that way when needed

if i want a brick built one then id build a rocket stove with oven and above that have the smoker as the top would only need to be replaced with a sheet

Some caravan sites tend to have a few empties knocking around.

Theres always loads in my local council tip/recycling centre. Easy to put some in car
