Cordless foot pedals have been on the market for a few years, http://www.millerwelds.com/products/accessories/remote_controls/ unfortunatly Miller use the huge bulky traditional design which means standing or sitting they're only properly comfortable to use for any length of time if you're legs differ in length by several inches. A low profile shape...

is sooooooo much nicer when like most humans your legs are the same length and the start and finish angles also make a lot more sense*, it's like they actually thought about the range of motion human ankles have...

* akin to the throttle pedal in a car... if the travel is too long they're less comfortable to use but obviously less travel reduces the resolution so small changes make a bigger difference. SSC controls got the compromise just right, sooooo much nicer than any other pedal i've used

Looks to be a similar profile as my Parweld except the Parweld has a pot on the side also.

I have a Parweld pedal that is very low profile and comfortable to use, chevy2 is a flash git as he has a wireless miller pedal

I dont apologise at all for being flash with my wireless pedal

It may to some people seem a bit of a gimmick and not necessary but use one and you wont wanna go back to a corded pedal.

That miller pedal costs more than I paid for all my welding things put together. I think I could put one together for less than £25.

Would anyone with an SSC pedal mind measuring the start and end angles for me, so I can get mine perfect.

Another degree setting for you: the micro-switch to activate/initiate pre-gas flow/hf and arc, is closed at 15 degrees, after 2 degrees of pedal movement from the 17 degree Power Off Position.

So Min power from 15 degrees to Max power 0.4 degrees...

Has anyone had any success adapting sewing machine pedals? I appreciate the pot would need to be relevant to the machine, but that's my cheapskate plan....

Thanks again, don't suppose you ( or anyone else on here ) knows anything about arduino programming and SPI (serial peripheral interface)? I'll start my own thread if so and stop stealing this one - sorry about that Zardoz.

I thought about a sowing machine pedal but I decided the range of motion on it was too small and the design is just for your toes, which I found uncomfortable. The pot may not need to be changed, depending on how its wired - voltage divider vs variable resistor ( voltage divider will work with many different pots).

I did think about making my own, but decided it was not worth the hassle.. I got a Tecarc pedal, but that's gone back as it was shocking! Just waiting on my SCC to come, inc shipping was about £110! Cheaper than the Tecarc by far not sure on the import fees yet, was shipped out the next day after placing the order too!

Just to add to what was said earlier, pedals are still useful in tight spaces..
