New shiny joint with rusty nuts? How can they tell they have been reused?
Hi, You could always deform the threads again with a centre punch or cold chisel across the face of the nut. It's not the first time I've seen it done 'in the field' on all kinds of nuts.

have u ever seen a propshaft come adrift and let gomy stockcar had a 1/8 th steel plate under the seat for that verry reason.it was well dented .glad it wasnt my credentials when it did
Turn up a close tollerance round bar to just fit in the un crimped end then see it if fits through to the crimped end . If it does see if a precision bolt screwed in from the base end with your fingers does the same as the nut thread angle or pitch may be slightly altered .Here are the new nuts from jag, they look bog standard, they actually look a bit second hand themselves.
