Usb memory stick used space?

So last night I plugged 2 usb memory sticks into a computer (windows) and did a copy & paste of the contents from one to another.

Looking at the 'properties' of both sticks now, I copied from #1 to #2, both formatted in Fat32

#1: Used Space 26.8gb, Free Space 88.6gb
#2: Used Space 25.6gb, Free Space 2.96gb

Should the Used Space on both not be the same?
Capacity of 1 is 115gb, 2 is 28.6gb
Would the larger card really need 1.2gb for partioning or whatever? Doesn't seem right as the capacities of both are reported lower than the size so I'd guess that's due to partioning?

Basically, do I need to trawl through and try to find something that's not been copied across?

Probably nothing to worry about - the larger stick will likely be formatted with larger sector sizes, and files cannot share sectors. Copying a large quantity of smaller files (like low res images) will exacerbate the problem as you'll have a greater quantity of files where their last content takes a full sector, whether they fill 1% of it or 100%.

If you right click on the folder in Windows and select "Properties" then (eventually) it will give you the overall size of the content and number of files, which should be the same for both.

if your reading a size difference between the files something hasnt copied over

you can check the files by selecting all that youve transfered and then right clicking propertys check file size and also how many files it has
then do the same with the new sent files

your looking for a size difference and amount of files they hold

if there is a difference just delete all files and start again transfer sections to make sure all is transfered over

what should be on the original should transfer to the the other usb stick and be the same size that was transfered

you can check by propertys or both usb sticks

unless the usb stick threw a fruity whilst transfering a large file

your best off copying to your hard drive first then transfer from your hard drive to the other usb stick

yes its the long way around but if the usb sticks error and they do due to speed differences between them

its not what you thought it was just try reading what hes asking as i nearly did the same mistake as you myself

hes asking if both drives should read the same size by transfered files from one usb stick to the other

as he reads 1.2gb hasnt transfered over to the new usb stick

the usb sticks are reading the correct allocated size by the way they are formatted when you add them together between used space and free space
