Urgent help needed

In need of some help I’m 41 been welding on and off all my life! Been welding (mig) recently but keep getting burnt, I’m welding in a open area workshop 1.2mm wire down hand plenty of ventilation also a brand new air flow welding screen!! Been back to college and asked for help but there’s nothing that I’m doing wrong ‍ I’m wearing a welding hood, cap and full ppe but still getting burnt on my face

When you say burnt, you mean UV, like sunburn?

I had this once in a boat shed. They had put plastic sheet in above the boat and it was bouncing the arc back down onto me and the inside of the screen was bouncing it onto my face. Ended up with a burnt neck and face - took ages to work it out.

Yes full on burnt on my face uv from mig welding I’m totally confused and fed up I love welding to and totally good at

If your face is getting uv burn then your eyes wont be getting protected either. What mask are you using? Is it a reputable brand and have you tried others to use it out?

Tempory solution, if you need to do welding now, is wear a cloth mask under your mask to cover as much skin as possible

Seems odd, enough uv to burn your face would also destroy your eyes

its not the fluorescent type of ppe wear is it? or with the bright reflective stripes? i have found that can bounce quite a lot of uv back under your visor

I spent £1300 on this,full enclosed welding helmet been to back to college and the tutor said that the screen is working fine no issues at all

Just plane blue overalls no reflective stripes on it at all it’s absolutely doing my head

You’re still getting burnt while wearing that thing?? I was wondering if it’s not burns, but a reaction to the gases given off, but if you have forced air mask.....

Could the mask be drawing in something that is affecting your skin, like a chemical burn as opposed to uv ?

No idea, but if you are fully covered and still getting burns, then my thought was that it something the mask is bringing in and slowing across your exposed skin inside the helmet.

Maybe the filter is a bit near his exhaust.

Eye burn takes a while for the irritation to start, he will know if its UV tonight, when cant sleep for sand in your eyes.

Ive never used 1.2mm wire but that suggests big welds and heat. Any problems with smaller stuff? Do you have a photo of your bench area/setup?
Is the roof reflective?

Are you welding new clean steel?

Because it normally happens when I leave work and I get out the shower that my face is absolutely on fire and red colour
