upvc cappings over facia ...or leave the wood

im going to be doing some gutter work soon , 1950s house with decent wooden boards still , im worried if i cap them they will rot

what do you think ....good rub down and paint job or upvc capping ?

either way is ok as long as the felt is ok and water does not get between the boards and plastic capping ,all mine are wood coated with sadolin paint most just cover the rotten krap up and makes it worse as any rot cant dry out

Problem with capping is you lose the drip overhang from the tiles or slates, take the old off and you will be glad you done it.

you mean its moving the gutter forward 10mm?

i think i will sand and paint it , been there years with its lead paint on lol, ought to last me out

or sanding it will end your life quicker

yes you lose 10m plus modern gutters are held out further due to bracket design so you could lose 15mm

ok if the felt still overhangs in to the gutter but the majority is old and knackered and none existent on the end
