UPS ripoff delivery charges

I contacted rtech about the trigger on my plasma not working, was told it was a consumable item, not warranty, and it only costs £3.95+vat.
So no stress, i was happy enough till i was told the delivery cost £6.71+vat, and it's not even a next day delivery, fecking ripoff !!
To annoy me even further i took the torch apart to find the wire had broken just below the switch, cos the cheapo Handel doesn't clamp the internals tightly allowing them to turn inside and cut through the wires!
So 2 mins with the solder fixed it, least i will have an expensive spare trigger!!

I used to run a mail order business, it's suprising how postage costs mount up when you add in packaging materials.

I wanted to send a parcel to the Ukraine, Parcel2Go quoted me £30.00 via DHL, but DHL wouldn't accept the order from P2G's website, so I opted for Fedex. Everything went OK until the parcel arrived in Kiev, then Fedex decided they couldn't deliver to the address after all. They sent it back to P2G at a cost of £81.00, which I refused to pay.

I got a quote of over £90 directly from DHL!

Its about right if you use couriers for such small items. Obviously it would of been cheaper to send in a envelope with Royal mail, but if you standardise on a delivery method and use them for everything, then small items do tend to seem expensive.

We use APC and they charge about £6.50 for a mail pack, which is like a plastic A3 envelope which you can put anything in weighing up to 1kg. So the price you mention is there or there abouts

Hermese seem reasonable, and i may try them when posting parcels myself, as an alternative to parcel force or royal mail. I ordered an item weighing 5kg and it was £6 delivery. You also get a tracking number and can track it at various days on its journey on a 2 to 5 day delivery. OK if you are not in urgent need of the item i suppose. I don`t know the cost for small lightweight items.

UPS, Fedex and DHL are just outrageous !! Another little trick they all have is to charge ridiculous fees for import clearance on parcels from the USA, regardless of the goods value. I simply will not use them now.

I used to have the parts I bought from the states airfreighted, cost a lot less than a courier and I did the clearance myself. Lot less, as in shipping axles and paying maybe a 100 dollars. I never got a dhl/ups quote back then but a
few years ago I shipped a bundle of cylinder heads to the states and
I got quotes from all the couriers, without exception they were quite hilarious, thousands of pounds! A local freight forwarder[Bax Global] charged 225 quid.

First time I had something shipped by UPS they charged loads for clearance and they charged me duty when they shouldn't have. I have always wondered who pocketed the duty and do they do that all the time?

I ordered parts for a computer from dabs.ie, about 700euros of stuff. The ups man signed for it himself and left the two big boxes on the front doorstep for the world to see as I live on a busy main road. He left them there at 10am and I came home at 11pm and saw them. He didnt even ring me.

Tigler you will be in same boat no matter how it came in to the country, it all has to go through Customs some where.
Pretty much pot luck.

Even have to pay it, delivery, clearance fee and vat on goods sent as gifts from a US citizen.
