its basically just to show the left/right/pause technique to help learn, its not of the best quality (too dark) and not the most perfect weld in the world but as i say its just to show technique

ps, if your wondering why it kept stopping and starting its because i was doing it on 2mm sheet (all i had) with 2.5mm rods and really low amps to keep it from melting right through
oh and just to let everyone know, its a b@57@*d trying to hold a camera/lens in one hand and weld with the other

Baw i know what you mean about holding the camera and trying to weld its hard as hell. video is very dark, what shade were you using over the camera

it was a shade 10 taped to the camera but it had quite alot of spatter and "weld fog" over it

I must admit i did process mine, in that i tried to lighten it up a little. I didnt have the luxuary of tape lol. Makes me wonder if a shade 8 is better if you used 10. camras are funny as they arent so sensitive to light as the human eye.

i also tried it with the camera under one of those oxy cutting green full face masks (dont have a clue what shade) but it was a bit too bright, all you could see was the flash but not the rod or pool if you know what i mean

that was the next thing that had crossed my mind was gas goggles, normally around a shade 5. Malcolm did a couple of vids on the tutorials wonder what shade he used

Can it bugger the CCD in the camera being exposed to a bright UV source without a shade? Just curious...

ccd isnt that an extra small cd? i mean compact compact disc lol.


not really sure if it can damage the camera "eye", i wouldnt really want to do it without a lens just incase of splatter

it was one of the cheap aldi special buys ones and the rods were cheaappi 2.5mm weldability superweld ones (£6 a carton )

CCD = Charge Coupled Device, aka the cameras "eye". Some of the cheap ones use a CMOS device as the cameras "eye" instead. Just another hobby of mine.

Ah I get it now. You use the weld below as a platform to hold weld pool up.

Is this the technique for mig welding? I,ll give it a go

basically yes, mig isnt that different from arc. in doing positional welds

I must admit i dont really like auto settings, certainly when i have done pics of welding i hate the flash. it refects back off the shine surface and you dont get a clear image. I prefer to set the ISO to 1600, and set the shutter time to about 1/4 of second, and try not to move. doesnt always work though.

superweld I dumped two boxes of them the other day because they kept dropping the Ark even on dc total rubbish I did keep the plastic cartons they were in the for some of my other rods their handy to keep out the moisture

but they dont match up to a bag of blue 6013s a pal gave to me (from a farm)
