The kitchen door lock mechanism is sticking. Door is fully adjusted and swinging correctly

the spring loaded catch needs an extra push on the handle to fully retract it

investigations suggest the gear box is fubar

looking on line there are many options with a multitude of dimensions

how do I work out which one I need?

remove it take to local lock place theres meny things you need to measure to make sure it fits

if you open the door ( swinging in mid air)and then lock and unlock it does it work fine ?

The lock works fine. It’s the spring loaded bit that doesn’t full retract

it’s this catch, it requires an extra downwards push of the handle to retract it fully

or if it only need an extra push as a temp repair/bodge use a angle grinder to take a bit off the end did that on mine lasted another 6 months

+100 lifes too short to be bothering trying to guess these thing,s had this battle before, took 5 minutes at the place, too many permutations, dimensions, not worth the guestimation....

Parm have you taken it apart yet? It might just need a bit of fettling or lube.

is the handle mech warn ? the handles look well used they might not be fully retracting the catch when pulled down ?

the handles are only held on with a cuple screws take off and use a pair maul grips to turn the bar

Remove the two dozen screws, pull the front strip off, and see what has worn or snagged.

Screwfix list a load of yale locks.... they are easy enough to fit, just find one as close to yours as you can and follow the instructions

how do I work out which one I need?

The lock works fine. It’s the spring loaded bit that doesn’t full retract

makes no difference parm the locking mechanism has failed or worn with use

the part that has gone is the square handle bar of the locking mechanism

dont be picky just get a new replacement even if you dont want to pay for it

i can assure you it wont be nice if your locked out because that part fails and it will cost you a whole lot more

What’s not working is described as the gearbox or lock mechanism. I need to remove it, measure up and get a new one. But today has now turned into sorting out a blocked rain water gully.....

my advice is use the other door key until you get it replaced asap

only use that door when needed until then if it does go the better access is from inside to slide the catch to open it however if the gearing does fail its a true git to open that door as the handle also controls the slide bar

my back door does the same.....
just take out the lock and give a good lub spray every6months.....
mine dries out in the heat/sun........
