Chaps,
Just had a side door fitted to the garage, so I’d like to supplement the existing lock on the up and over door. As the garage is barely big enough for OH’s Fiesta, I’ve turned it into a workshop, and as such the original door will very rarely be used. In fact, I might look at constructing a bench behind said door for hot work, filing, sawing, etc, possibly using the door as an internal “wall” and keep the bench at the other end for clean(er) work.
I don’t want to do anything permanent as this is not the “forever” house, as nice as it is, so are there any threads on here that would give me some ideas for extra security?? FWIW, it’s a fairly standard single skin up and over door, but the frame is railway sleepers, so plenty of strength to fasten to on the inside. And if I go with the bench idea, would it be worth fastening something protective to the back of the door to form a wall? (I recall reading somewhere that plasterboard was good as welding sparks/slag doesn’t stick to it.)
Much thanks.
