When I was registering my first Robin Hood I'd spoken to the lady at the registration office about chassis numbers and she said they would issue one when I had the built up inspection (advice from Robin Hood Engineering was make your own up but some people in the owners club had fallen foul so I was playing a straight bat). Built up inspection was booked, trailer was hired and off I went with the car to the office - it was hissing down so I wasn't best pleased. Their carpark was heaving so I left my dad with my keys to move my car with the kit on the trailer back and forth to let people out whilst I went in and got the inspector. He spent all of 5 minutes looking at it. He then disappeared back inside without a word leaving me wondering whether he was finished and could I cover the car back up (hissing down remember), or should I follow him. I decided to follow him and met him coming back out of the door...... "I didn't see the chassis number" so I told him it didn't have one and I'd been informed they would issue one after this inspection.


"Oh you should just have made one up"

I could have happily strangled him. I settled for not telling him that he'd left his 6 cell Maglite on the trailer. I drove out of the carpark and a couple of hundred yards down the road before I got out to "check the straps" and retrieve the torch.

In 1984 I was called out by the police to sort out some damaged traffic light on the A10 at 02.10 in the morning . After driving for an hour I find the lights well & truly mangled somebody has run over them in a big truck , not much left worth recovering . I set up the new set of lights I'd brought with me , timed them and walking back to the pick up found a very nice new 1 mtr Stabilia ( sp?) spirit level on the grass. It's been used to build a farm , a bungalow and level no end of other things .

The bubbles have lost their fluorescence .. can you get new bubbles for them ?
Oh ...and it's still almost as clean as the day I found it .

It’s quite amazing how quick you can get to the hard shoulder and jump out in full hi-vis garb..

Oh, a tarmac boiler too, half full of cold tar though, so it was a PITA to lift in

Watch it. A friend of one of my staff was killed on the M4 a few weeks ago doing exactly the same thing. He was also wearing a high viz vest.
