Universal Car Alarm Keyfob?

Evening all.

I have managed to break the case of the alarm keyfob for my old L200. The unit still works, but the bit that secures it to the key ring has snapped.
Easy repair I thought, just stick a bit of brass with a hole in on the back and we’re done.
Not so. I think the brass is shielding the radio signal so it no longer works. Bummer.
I have an old polycarbonate bike visor that I could chop up to replace the brass, but I was wondering if these universal jobbies were any good?
It’s an ‘04 truck, and an import from Saudi so there’s nothing useful to be found in the Arabic instructions so I have no information as to the make and model of the alarm.
Any words of wisdom for me?

Depends on what frequency the fob works on depends on if you can find a "cloning" fob.

Have used a couple of 433mhz ones before and have worked on vag group for locking and unlocking

Yeah I’ve seen the 433mhz ones but I have no idea what frequency mine runs on. I guess there would be a way to find out though...

Yes! I think that’s a very real possibility. Good thinking that man. Go to the top of the class!

All it would need is a 3D printed thing with a key ring hole to hold the existing unit. Should be simple enough. I hope!

I have got a 3d printer though if you want me to have a go at knocking a case up?

Couple of lugs on the bottom and pop a small bolt through to stop it wearing out again!

Many keyfob cases are replaceable and are even available as a part at the dealers. If you can find one online then they will probably be a few quid, just transfer the internals. The is no need to be messing about.

Depending on the age some vehicles can have additional remotes added at home without any special equipment so you may even be able to get a blank key with the remote built into it.

I had a 2000 Nissan Primera that only came with one key, there was a simple sequence to add another key.

Thanks very much for the kind offer, but I wonder if it would be more hassle than it’s really worth. The brass thing with the hole worked fine to attach it to the key ring so maybe a bit of old visor would be the quick and dirty fix.
If I had my own 3D printer it might be a good learning exercise, but I’d feel guilty about putting on someone else to do it for me if that makes sense?

The case of my 406's keys needed replaced & I got what looked to be the correct case on ebay but it was slightly different & wouldn't work. Then I tried a local locksmith & he had exactly the right case in stock for only a few ££.
