Get hold of some 'Radioactive' signs. We have an exernal store that we use for Radioactives, it was never touched even when we had no perimeter fence. Then the counter-terrorism people turned up and told us to remove the signs as it was telling Mohammed's friends where to find the stuff to make dirty bombs
We also had to spend thousands putting up a perimeter fence.
A couple of weeks back the store was broken into: it's an ISO shipping container and in the space of half an hour one Friday evening the scum hacksawed through the hinge pins and prised the doors off. The store is tied to the building's monitored alarm system so we know what time I set it and what time it was tripped.
There was nothing Radioactive in there and nothing else was taken (3-phase 1000L compressor would be a bit hard to hide in your trackie bottoms).
Across the car park was another ISO container, not alarmed but had a shrouded padlock. Scrotey-boys flipped all the levers but the lock stopped the doors opening. So they couldn't see inside and missed the SIXTEEN TONS of lead blocks that we had in there
Had they seen them, we reckon every gyppo in the county would have been round with HIABs and shotguns.
Needless to say, we've moved that container off-site...

As I mentioned earlier.My garage side door has a magnetic contact switch, And this thread has made me realise that a vibration sensor like I have on the window frames would also be advantageous on the side and front doors.As the 6 core wire already runs to the doors am I correct in thinking that I can use the tamper circuit for the vibration sensors? Or do they require more than two wires to operate?

just a quick one for, shox and engineer, the vibration alarms stated above are pre entering the building alarms not magnetic contact ones. This means that if you have contacts on the doors the thief could still chisel the mortar from between the brick work and be in. Not if you have the vibration packs

Personally I would have CCTV on PIRs, and vibration sensors, oh and a BFD called fluffy

It depends if the doors are on a "final exit" circuit (starts entry timer when opened) or a "zone" circuit from the house.

If the latter, just add in the vibration sensor(s) using proper alarm junction boxes (have anti-tamper lids)

It's not advisable to use the anti-tamper circuit as it is monitored all the time and you would create a fault every time the sensor was triggered

Thanks Robotstar5, The garage is at the bottom of my garden and has it's own alarm system.I'm sure the control box has a spare zone, will try and find the wiring diagram, Or just copy the window sensor wiring.
P.S. both doors are on a final exit circuit.

Installation guides I've read suggest that you make up your own pairs to avoid the scrotes knowing which wires to cut or short. Make notes in the system manual, obviously.

I have a small industrial unit for my odd jobs and it has quite a lot of expensive gear in it, and some surrounding units have been broken into recently so I'm starting to get a bit worried.......

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Sadly in this mad PC world, it seems that the scrotes & thieves hold all the aces, if you defend yourself/stuff you become the villain .

Having been cleaned out once I've - 1 - moved away from the areas that the scroats inhabit. - 2 - taken robust countermeasures, I cannot divulge what.
If you cannot do the same expect to lose stuff

Change your doors so they open out, big steel frame & an inner steel door, dont look diferent from the surounding units.

On a serious note, are those paint filled shotgun cartridges legal? Iv seen them used in paintball with a trip wire it really does make you poo your pants when they go off too!

Pretty much anything is illegal when it comes to protecting yourself or your property! Good case in point is the riots the other week, when police stood by doing nothing while peoples businesses and homes were trashed by scum, and yet they suggested local people organising to resist attacks by the scum, was not helpful!

Indeed not helpful in terms of clearly showing the police cannot do the job they are paid for, while members of local community's working together seem to able to protect their property and businesses rather well...............

Well thanks a lot people, this has given me a lot to think about and, after much thought and scrap paper drawings, I think we've come up with a suitable solution.

Of course I'd be stupid to divulge exactly what I've got planned but it's all above board and should prove very secure (and keep me busy for the next week or so)

Bit late to this but here's my 2p's worth,

Vibration sensors, made by most companies all work in the same way,
2 pr al 2pr pwr 2pr tamper.

When I used to install alarms I ran 8 core to the doors, a junction box let me split the cable for the mag reed contact on the door and i still had a separate circuit for the vibration sensor in the 8 core.

Mag reed did the entry exit and the vibration sensor did the detection before entry.

I found the best way to beat scumbags was lot of NOISE, 3 or 4 sound bombs in a job create a sound that you can FEEL

One way to beat a disc cutter / stihl saw is to have tubes inside a tube as the disc cutter spins the separate sections of tube / shaft will spin and the stilly is just revvin and spinnin but not cuttin.

It's been a few years since I retired from things arlarming etc.and my memory is not so good but I think I'm correct in saying.....

They usually have a live and negative and a voltage circuit switch & a 24 h live anti tamper switch cct.
You can use the 24 hr cct to power up and run it through the no voltage switch providing the cct board has enough capacity to power the device.

You can also do four wire PIR's in the same manner ..again the board has to be able to support the current requirement .....any dips on the incoming mains frequently causes the board to drop suffficient power to activate the panel as if the 24 hr cct has been correctly activated..

But like most things a full six core cable is best.

One thing to remember is that the viper type devices are affected by intense cold so at minus 5 they often fall out and set the alarm off.
Condensation on windows also affects the cct board if enough condensate forms and runs into the device .

Years ago ( 1985 ish ) One big prob I found using lots of radially wired vibration sensors was that they made excellent aerials for radio transmissions and some sorts of common transmissions would set the panel off every time so I had to fit lots of supressors at the panel end of things .

Remember if you have an insured alarmed premise the insurers view non NACOSS type approved adjustments to the system as invalidating their cover.

Yep that's very close to the problem , local scrotes would tour the industrial estates with an AM side bander and a big set of boots on it just keying away to see which alarms would activate due to swamping & induced voltages .
Five or so activations per night over two or three nights before a Friday and they would hit the place the next night for no one was going to report an annoying alarm & the local bobbies had their hands full with drunks & druggies..

This is a very important point few people understand; Any system that relies on the intruder to set it off by been inside is worthless. When they are in, it's too ****ing late

with this point in mind having 2 doors would seem a good way to go, if you biult a cage 3 feet square inside the first door with a very strong door with 3 or more locks on it l doubt they would want to stay there and try and break in the second door if breaking the first door down has set the alarms off especially if you had some thing like car air horns (or lorry horns ) right in or next to the cage that were blaring away, l think most people would leg it at that point
